Watch IPL5 online on Indiatimes, the official broadcaster of IPL

"Steal a Run…Not the Bat". Top quality online cricket shop in India, scores with game changing Innovations and Creativity. Hits out at internet image piracy in the best traditions of the game!

While the IPL season is some days away, the first power play has already started.India's specialist online cricket shop, cricketershop.com has come up with this funny and creative campaign on internet image piracy.
Manudev Bhardwaj of Cricketer Shop explains, “We shoot all our high quality photos by ourselves and present these in our unique way. However, we were shocked to see that most of our photos have been copied by some other sites. Some have gone to the extent of putting their own watermark on our photos! That’s just not cricket!”
According to Mr. Rajen Kumar, the editor in chief of SME World, and the foremost authority on the SME sector in India, “Equipments market in particular and internet environment in general suffer from this problem. On many sites, one sees the same photos and material…usually taken from the manufacturer’s site or simply copied from other sites. The fashion sites normally do their own photography, sports gear and equipment sites, usually don’t”.
Cricketer Shop is a specialist cricket shop which has been online for around six months. In the discount and deals dominated Indian E-Commerce market, Cricketer Shop has come up with some game changing innovations. It’s unlike any shopping site, one has seen…in India or even internationally.
Analysts have bemoaned the lack of originality in the Internet shops in India with basically similar site design, features and offers. A visit to cricketershop.com will be a delight to not only the cricketers but also those with an eye for design, elegance and artistic beauty.Beautiful photographs and graphics together with a simple navigation are the first things one notices. “Keep it simple”, the quintessential advice of every cricket coach is the fundamental belief behind their site design, business model and service.
Product Display in Ultra Slo Mo

In a unique first of its kind, Cricketer Shop has created what they call an Ultra Slo Mo Product Display. It’s a combination of clear products photos and highlights of the features with the combined shots of the actual play. It’s an attempt to bring the product to life and put it in the context to give a virtual feel of the product to the viewer.
Currently, only about half of the products have this display. The rest are presented in good quality all around photos with a large zoom.

The head of their creative team adds, “Beauty, style and grace are embedded in the cricket technique. It’s a sport where a shot can fetch the maximum and yet be described as ugly. Good technique in cricket is essentially pleasing to the eye. Also, when it comes to their cricket gear, cricketers are very quality conscious. Style in cricket is utilitarian!”
Its more than just shopping at cricketershop.com .It’s a celebration of cricket. There is even a photo gallery dedicated to 'Art of Cricket' These are the beautiful cricket photos and graphics created in house. Some photos are gifts from photographers.

There is a separate photo gallery called ‘I’m a Cricketer- the joy of playing cricket’ featuring photos of players from cricket academies, schools and clubs.

So far in India, the Amazon model of selling everything had proved popular and successful. As a sign of a maturing market, some niche players have started entering the e-commerce domain. Cricketer Shop has defined the focus very narrowly. It caters to just cricket and even within cricket, only to serious cricket. They won’t even carry the popular tennis ball cricket, or cricket video games.
Complete Cricket Shop
Within the defined focus, the range of cricket gear is comprehensive, covering all the price points and all possible variations, whether it’s the range of sizes for men and boys or the cricket gear for left handers.

The top cricket brands currently selling at Cricketer Shop are SG, SS, Kookaburra, Gunn & Moore (GM), Reebok, Adidas and Upper Cut. Puma Cricket will also be online soon. Just in the Cricket Bats category, there are more than 130 different kinds and the choices are growing.
Cricketer Shop sells the complete range of cricket kit, equipment, clothing and accessories. Navigation is simple and one can choose from cricket bats, leg guard pads, batting and wicket keeping gloves, cricket helmets, shoes, cricket clothing to accessories which include everything from cricket kit bags to bat handle grips.
Summary

E-commerce in India is getting interesting. It’s no longer just about discounts and deals. Sites like cricketer shop are betting on quality conscious customers and taking a premium approach.

With cricketershop.com online shopping for cricket has a grace, style and beauty-all the qualities the game of cricket is known for.
This two line description on the home page of Cricketer Shop will delight not just the cricketers but all those interested in e-commerce.

Tendulkar century aginast of bangladesh

Tendulkar century

DHAKA, Bangladesh (AP) — Cricket lovers the world over knew it was just a matter of time.
But finally, after being stranded for a full year in matches from England to Australia, Sachin Tendulkar of India scored his 100th international century to the collective relief of his cricket-mad country of more than 1 billion people.
In a sport dedicated to statistics, nobody can match Tendulkar's numbers. He has scored the most runs and the most centuries in tests and limited-overs cricket. And he was the only batsman likely to hit the magical 100 hundreds mark in his lifetime.
Tendulkar, known as the "Little Master," reached the milestone — one of the most prized achievements in cricket — in the Asia Cup at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Friday.
The moment came with a clipped single to square leg from spinner Shakib Al Hassan, although it wasn't enough to prevent Bangladesh from stunning India by five wickets. He was finally out for 114.
"I can't think of anything at this stage, it has been a tough phase for me," Tendulkar told Neo Cricket channel after his innings. "I started off the season well but was luckless. It does not matter how many hundreds you score, you still have to grind it out."

Tendulkar
India Prime Minister Manmohan Singh led the outpouring of praise. Singh called Tendulkar's 23-year career a "triumph of class, character and courage" and wished that he keeps playing to inspire youngsters with "many more innings and feats."
International Cricket Council chief executive Haroon Lorgat, Indian cricket board chief Narainswamy Srinivasan and other past and present cricketers also offered congratulations.
Tendulkar's 100th century — or hundred runs — didn't come at the most glamorous or tradition-steeped venue. Nor did it come against the most vaunted opponent. Still, he finally got there.
The best batsman of the modern era scored his previous century (111) against South Africa at Nagpur during the World Cup on March 12 last year. The World Cup final at Mumbai and tours of England and Australia all provided chances of hitting the mark at some of cricket's most celebrated grounds, but Tendulkar came up short each time.
"When I got the 99th century, no (teammates) spoke about it. I guess it was the media which started it. Everywhere I went people were talking about my 100th hundred," he said.
Tendulkar has set a benchmark unlikely to be surpassed in his lifetime. His closest rival is Ricky Ponting, who has 68 international centuries but is approaching the twilight of his career at age 37.
Since his international debut at 16 against archrival Pakistan in 1989, Tendulkar has been compared not only with top batsmen of his era like Brian Lara, but also with Australian great Donald Bradman as the best batsman in history.
"Tendulkar always looks to score, is never satisfied and always hungry for runs," former India captain Sunil Gavaskar "His approach, focus and concentration is incredible."
The 38-year-old Tendulkar has taken on the best bowlers over the past 23 years. He has restricted his participation in one-day matches since 2010, but he remains as energetic as anyone in the field and even while running between the wickets. Every speculation of retirement is answered with a new achievement.
Tendulkar has adjusted well to changing times. He has not only perfected new strokes like the "upper cut" and "paddle sweep," but also excelled in the slash and bash of the Twenty20 Indian Premier League.
Former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar called this latest achievement "a golden moment for not only Sachin but also Indian cricket." Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan weighed in on Twitter: "God's special creation .. Sachin Tendulkar!!"

Cricket strikes deal for phone coverage

Cricket strikes coverage

Cricket's parent company Leap on Wednesday struck a deal with Clearwire to use its upcoming LTE network. The five-year pact will let Cricket users run on Clearwire's 4G in addition to the network Cricket itself plans to build. The expansion would give extra capacity where it was needed to help cope with demand, Leap chief Doug Hutcheson said.
The prepaid carrier was otherwise expected to have one of the more conservative LTE rollouts of US carriers, taking three years to reach two thirds of its network. Clearwire wouldn't necessarily expand the number of areas it covers, but it would provide more substantial coverage in those areas where it already has a presence. Clearwire is due to start its LTE in March and would have substantial coverage by 2013.

Most carriers in the US now will have majority or significant LTE coverage by 2013. The gap between major carriers and smaller ones has been comparatively large, however, as AT&T and Verizon plan to be mostly done while Sprint, T-Mobile, and regionals like MetroPCS either have yet to start or have to move slower.

For Clearwire, the deal could an important part of its recovery. It has only ever had Sprint as a wholesale customer for its 4G and has drawn concern from those worried that its success rides on whether or not it stays friendly with the larger provider.

DHAKA, Bangladesh (AP)—Irfan Pathan took four wickets and RavichandranAshwin and Vinay Kumar claimed three each to help India beat Sri Lanka by 50 runs in the second match of the Asia Cup on Tuesday.
Chasing a winning target of 305, Sri Lanka was dismissed on 254 in the 46th over. Mahela Jayawardene scored 78 and Kumar Sangakkara collected 65. Lahiru Thirimanne was next highest with 29 as none of the other Sri Lanka batsmen could cross 20.
Pathan took 4-32 in 8.1 overs and Ashwin 3-39 in nine as they slowed down the Sri Lankans. Vinay Kumar was a tad more expensive with 3-55 off nine.
After Jayawardene and Sangakkara fell, Sri Lanka lost wickets at regular intervals, paying the price for resting key players Angelo Mathews, Thisara Perera and Lasith Malinga.
India picked its strongest available team and built a rock-solid base as GautamGambhir and Virat Kohli scored centuries in a 205-run stand to propel the World Cup winner to 304-3.
Gambhir made 100 from 118 balls with seven boundaries, and Kohli hit 108 from 120 deliveries with seven fours at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium after Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to field first.
Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni smashed 46 not out from 26 balls with six boundaries and a six in an unbroken 78-run stand from 7.1 overs with Suresh Raina, 30 from 17 deliveries.
Farveez Maharoof led Sri Lanka’s bowling attack with 2-57.
Opener Sachin Tendulker fell for 6 with the total on 19, hitting a full toss off Suresh Lakmal to Jayawardene at short extra cover. Tendulker is still to score his 100th hundred in test and limited-overs international cricket.
The 11th Asia Cup also involves Bangladesh and Pakistan.
On Sunday, Pakistan beat Bangladesh by 21 runs in the opening match.
India has won the competition on five occasions, while Sri Lanka is a four-time champion. Both teams recently featured in the limited-overs tri-series in Australia, in which Sri Lanka lost the finals 2-1 to Australia.
The third match of the Asia Cup is between Pakistan and Sri Lanka on Thursday, also in Dhaka.

Cricket-World at stake in qualifying event

PREVIEW-Cricket-World T20 places at stake in

DUBAI, March 12 (Reuters) - International Cricket Council (ICC) chief executive Haroon Lorgat has called the ICC World Twenty20 qualifier that begins in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Tuesday “the biggest development event in cricket history”.
It is not an empty boast as 16 teams from cricket’s second and third tiers will play 71 matches at five venues over 12 days, with two places at stake in September’s main event in Sri Lanka.
The UAE tournament follows on from 12 qualifying events to reach this stage that took place in locations including Ghana, Slovenia, Nepal and Florida.
The previous ICC World Twenty20 qualifier in 2010 involved eight teams playing 17 matches over five days at two venues, while last year’s ICC Cricket World Cup, won by India, featured 49 matches and was spread over 43 days and 13 venues in three countries - Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka.
“The fact this qualifier’s footprint, thanks to the tournament itself and the qualifying events that preceded it, touches so many places around the world is a great sign for the health of the game and interest in it globally,” Lorgat told Reuters on Monday.
For the first time, a cricket tournament involving teams outside the world’s top 10 will have global television coverage.
The ICC has reached agreements with its official broadcasters in Asia, Africa and the Americas to show six matches over the final three days at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Those matches will also be streamed live on the internet, as will 14 other matches over seven days.
IRELAND FAVOURITES
The tournament lacks the abundance of big names that Sri Lanka’s main event will contain but there is still a sprinkling of quality on show.
Ireland will have vice-captain Kevin O’Brien, who last year scored the fastest hundred in the history of the 50-over World Cup, reaching three figures from 50 balls en route to a 63-ball 113 that helped his side to a famous win over England in Bangalore.
“It is massive (for us to qualify) as people in Ireland and other countries expect us to be at every World Cup that is on,” O’Brien told Reuters in the build-up to the tournament.
“With only two teams qualifying and with Twenty20 being so unpredictable, it would be stupid to rule out any team. That does bring extra pressure (on us) but we have got a very talented team and if we play to our strengths then hopefully that will be enough to come out on top.”
Ireland are the pre-tournament favourites, having reached the past two ICC World Twenty20s, in England in 2009 and the West Indies in 2010.
Their main rivals are expected to be Afghanistan, who beat them in the final of the qualifying event two years ago, Canada, the Netherlands and Scotland. The Netherlands beat 2009 hosts England in the opening match but are without leading all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate this time.
Papua New Guinea are boosted by the inclusion of Geraint Jones, the former England wicketkeeper and part of the Ashes-winning team in 2005, who has opted to play for the country of his birth.
“I saw playing for PNG as an opportunity to play some international cricket again and maybe get to a World Cup which I did not get a chance to do with England,” Jones told Reuters from the team’s pre-tournament camp in Canberra, Australia.
Former Australia one-day international batsman Michael di Venuto, now playing for English county side Durham, is lining up for Italy, qualifying because he has an Italian passport.
The sides are divided into two groups of eight with group A featuring Afghanistan, the Netherlands, Canada, Papua New Guinea, Hong Kong, Bermuda, Denmark and Nepal. Group B is made up of Ireland, Kenya, Scotland, Namibia, Uganda, Oman, Italy and the U.S.
The final is on March 24 and admission to all matches is free.

NFLPA says

NFLPA says it will do own bounty investigation

WASHINGTON (AP)—The NFL Players Association will do its own investigation of the New Orleans Saints’ bounty system and asked the league to help set up interviews with the team’s coaches and front-office staff.
In a statement released Wednesday, the union vowed to “vigorously protect the rights of all players.”
“If the facts prove that players voluntarily and willingly participated in conduct that jeopardized health and safety, we will work with them and the league to put in place additional safeguards to prevent this in the future,” the statement said. “Dangerous play and acts on the field by players intended to injure have no place in football. We must do better to ensure that this activity is not a part of our game.”
There was no mention of possible punishment for players involved.
After the NFL made its investigation public Friday, former Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams admitted to running a bounty pool of up to $50,000 over the past three seasons, rewarding players for knocking targeted opponents out of games. The league now wants to know whether Williams—who recently left the Saints to become defensive coordinator of the St. Louis Rams—ran a similar scheme while a head coach or assistant with the Titans, Redskins, Jaguars and Bills.
It took until Tuesday for current Saints head coach Sean Payton and general manager Mickey Loomis to also acknowledge the existence of the bounty system.
“We acknowledge that the violations disclosed by the NFL during their investigation of our club happened under our watch. We take full responsibility,” Payton and Loomis said in a joint statement.
Noting those comments, the NFLPA said Wednesday that it “negotiated vigorously to protect our players from coercive actions that compromise health and safety. The current CBA contains detailed rules on what clubs and coaches can and cannot do in terms of practice schedules and places limitations on the amount of contact. These rules include how clubs and coaches can be punished for violations of those safeguards.”
The union asked the NFL to give it “sufficient time” to finish its own inquiry into what happened in New Orleans.
According to the league, “knockouts” were worth $1,500 and “cart-offs” $1,000—with payments doubled or tripled for the playoffs. The NFL said the pool amounts reached their height in 2009, the season the Saints won the Super Bowl.
The league said between 22 and 27 defensive players were involved from 2009-11, but it hasn’t publicly cited specific players.
Spokesmen for the league and Saints declined to comment Wednesday.

ACT Senator Sports Minister appointed .

ACT Senator appointed new Sports Minister

Canberra Senator Kate Lundy has welcomed her appointment as the new Minister for Sport, Minister for Multicultural Affairs, and Minister Assisting for Industry and Innovation in the latest ALP reshuffle.
Prime Minister Julia Gillard made key changes to the ministry after the leadership battle with former Foreign Affairs Minister Kevin Rudd and the resignation of Sports Minister Senator Mark Arbib.
Senator Lundy previously held the positions of Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister, and Parliamentary Secretary for Immigration and Multicultural Affairs.
"I look forward to serving in the new ministry," Senator Lundy said.
"I am proud to be part of the Gillard Labor Government and I commend the Prime Minister's capacity to drive reform and deliver for the Australian people.
"I am honoured that the Prime Minister has asked me to fill the sports portfolio and assist Minister Combet, and that she has seen fit to elevate my existing work as Parliamentary Secretary for Immigration and Multicultural Affairs."
The promotion will see her take on the sports portfolio just months out from the start of the London Olympics.
"As the incoming Sport Minister I hope to continue the good work progressed by Minister Arbib," Senator Lundy said.
"Particularly as we lead up to the Olympics and Paralympics. Minister Arbib has been an outstanding Sport Minister and has left a strong legacy.
"I have always been passionate about the capacity of sport to forge communities, build acceptance and overcome social boundaries.
Sport is far more than the sum of its parts and is a critical area of social policy. As Minister, I look forward to championing the power of elite sport to inspire and community sport to promote participation, inclusion and a sense of belonging in the community. "
"I look forward to the opportunity to work with the Minister for Industry and Innovation Greg Combet, as Minister Assisting for Industry and Innovation furthering the government's productivity agenda."
The ACT Chief Minister Katy Gallagher says Senator Lundy's elevation to the ministry is great news for Canberra.
"The ACT has wanted and needed and wanted a minister at the table for some time," Ms Gallagher said.
"It's been since 1996 since we've had our last minister so it's good for the city to have someone represented at the ministerial table and Kate Lundy deserves it."
